Shortage of essential medicines has urged the government to seek help from International organizations. According to the Secretary of the State Ministry, Dr. Saman Ratnayake, Sri Lanka is currently facing a shortage of 40 types of essential medicines. He has stated that the budget allocated for medicines is insufficient due to the spike in US Dollar rate.
