Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti noted that Sri Lanka Expo 2026, a landmark initiative that reflects Sri Lanka’s ambition to expand exports, promote Sri Lankan products globally and elevate Sri Lanka’s global presence in international markets will create new opportunities for exporters whilst strengthening the country’s economic growth.
He was addressing the official launch of Sri Lanka Expo 2026, the landmark event to expose local products to the world, in Colombo on Friday. Sri Lanka Expo 2026 is a privilege to reach the target of USD 17 billion export income and the official launch of the event will pave the way for reaching the set goal. This international exhibition has been scheduled for June 19 to 21, 2026 at the BMICH with the participation of hundreds of local manufacturers, exporters in various sectors and foreign importers and interested parties.
“I would like to begin by congratulating the export community, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, and all stakeholders for achieving export revenues exceeding USD 17 billion. This remarkable achievement reflects not only the resilience and innovation of our exporters but also the effectiveness of coordinated policy support, strategic market development, and targeted capacity-building initiatives.
Sri Lanka Expo 2026 is not just an event; it is a strategic platform for our exporters to reach new markets, attract international buyers, and showcase the best of Sri Lanka. It is a platform where our policies, our products, and our people come together to create real business opportunities in international markets,” he added.
“We have an ambitious agenda. As a country, we must diversify our export basket, explore emerging markets beyond the traditional ones, and continue to add value to our products. Agriculture, lifestyle, ICT, creative industries; all sectors have the potential to reach new heights, but they need exposure, connections, and support. That’s exactly what platforms like this Expo provide,” the minister further said.
He urged the support of ambassadors and diplomats in helping our exporters connect with new buyers, explore business opportunities, and expand Sri Lanka’s trade footprint. The diplomatic networks and advocacy are invaluable in positioning Sri Lankan businesses on the global stage.
“To our Sri Lankan Mission Heads and Officials joining online, your engagement is critical for the success of this exhibition. By promoting our exporters, facilitating connections, and supporting buyer engagement abroad, you play a vital role in turning this exhibition into meaningful business outcomes. Members of the private sector companies, we encourage you all to gather around this project, which is being organised after 14 years. I urge you to take ownership and work collectively with the Government sector to make this event a success. You can invite your prospective overseas partners to attend this event to grow business with Expo Sri Lanka 2026.,” he noted.
Minister Handunnetti further highlighted that this exhibition embodies the essence of our trade policy, it links government strategy with private sector capability, encourages market diversification and fosters sustainable growth. By leveraging initiatives like Sri Lanka Expo 2026, the country can strengthen exports, attract investment and showcase Sri Lanka as a trusted and competitive trading partner.
“I urge all stakeholders; exporters, investors, government officials, chambers, and media to actively participate, explore new markets, and seize the opportunities this exhibition offers. Together, we can ensure that Sri Lanka Expo 2026 is a catalyst for trade expansion, export diversification, and long-term economic resilience.
He expressed his confidence that this exhibition, which can be considered as a historic export milestone, will elevate Sri Lanka’s global presence, create new opportunities for our exporters, and strengthen our economic growth.”
