BMH (Baby Memorial Hospital), Kerala is one of South India’s leading multi-specialty hospitals, known for its advanced clinical expertise and patient-first philosophy. The hospital continues to collaborate globally to make specialized care accessible to patients across borders.
Speaking on the complexities involved in scoliosis and spine correction surgeries, Dr. Ananth Mohan Pai, CEO, BMH Hospitals, and Dr. Eswar Ramani, Senior Consultant, Department of Spine Surgery, shared. “Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves abnormally to the side, often developing during adolescence. In adults who experience persistent spinal pain, surgical intervention may be necessary when conservative treatments such as physical therapy do not provide relief. Congenital thoracic hypokyphosis is particularly challenging, especially in adolescents whose bodies are still developing. Many patients come to us after years of chronic pain, reduced activity levels, and the frustration of being unable to perform routine tasks. Speaking to the gathering at J R Jayawardana Centre Project Director Lion Dr. Nilmini Vithana said, “I am very happy in organizing this much needed and important Scoliosis Walkathon for the 13th consecutive year and helping many patients to cure successfully. These surgeries demand intricate planning and precise execution, but the outcomes can be life changing. We are thrilled with the results we see patients regaining mobility, experiencing relief from chronic pain, and showing significant improvements in posture and overall quality of life.” The walkathon attracted families, healthcare professionals, school groups, and social organizations united by one message: early screening can change a child’s future. BMH Hospitals, Lions Club, Med connect and Karetrip.com aim to continue driving public awareness and facilitating access to specialized care for Sri Lankan children. The Walkathon started at Independence Square on 23rd November and proceeded towards J R Jayawardane Centre where the annual conference on Scoliosis took place
